The times when Mitsubishi delighted its fans with an abundance of bright and driving cars passed by the beginning of the 2000s. The chaotic policy of expanding and building numerous alliances led to the fact that at the end of 2018, the model range consists of only a few models that are not distinguished by either innovation or outstanding design. Many legends are discontinued without plans for their revival.A striking example of the degradation of the brand is the Mitsubishi Lancer X. This generation disappointed fans of the ninth Lancer. The car has become more difficult, it does not have the reliability of the previous generation, the charms of the “nine”, which even with a 1.5-liter engine still seemed to be Evolution, also did not exist here. Yes, there is more comfort, and the appearance is more modern, but the overall impression of the model is economy on everything.

And yet, the car’s pedigree is serious, so let’s see how the cars feel after 6-8 years of severe operation in the metropolis and whether there is something really interesting in these cars for the price of 500 thousand, which our evaluation service traditionally recommends.

What, where and how much?
The previous generation of Lancers pleased their owners with fairly trouble-free operation and minimal investment cost. Therefore, among the first owners of cars of the tenth generation there were quite a lot of those who were “relocated”. Some quickly realized that it would be impossible to drive a hundred or two hundred thousand without repairing the suspension and simply changing the oil. Someone in the car was disappointed, but in vain. Just a more complex car demanded more thorough care. In general, there is nothing wrong with it. There is only something that is worse than the rest.

A rare case when in the entire line of engines there is no frankly unsuccessful one. Yes, the one and a half liter engine 4A91 for the car turned out to be rather weak, but one cannot say that it is a bad motor. Let him ring and coke relatively quickly. It seems nothing terrible, but if there is a choice of three more options, then why go for a compromise? Moreover, with these engines there was not the most successful manual gearbox with weak bearings (on machines with all other engines Manual is different) and a little naughty steering rack with EUR (on all other machines – GUR).

Therefore, we conclude that it is desirable to look for a car with a different engine. For example, with the petrol 1.6-liter 4A92, 1.8-liter 4B10, 2.0-liter 4B11 and 2.4-liter 4B12. All of them will be not only faster, but a little more reliable. Theoretically, there are more diesel Lancers, but it’s unrealistic to meet them. Almost as unrealistic as then sell. Now it remains to deal with the boxes.

With the motors figured out, and what did the manufacturer suggest in the box part? As I said, mechanical boxes with all engines, except for the 1.5-liter, usually do not cause questions. What about the automatic transmission?

On machines with motors of 1.5 and 1.6 liters, there is the usual torque converter “automatic” Jatco F4A. This is a very old, slow and uneconomical box. But she is fine (especially by modern standards) with a resource. And if they did not purposefully kill her, then it’s not necessary to be afraid of cars with her.

With the variator Jatco JF011E, which stand on machines with engines of 1.8 and 2.0 liters a little more complicated. And that, only because of that, for variators as a whole, doubtful glory was fixed. In principle, there are almost no serious complaints about them. It all depends on the previous owners – how they drove and serviced the box. Here it is desirable to stomp their feet and require documents confirming the replacement of oil. Of course, it would be nice if the seller had a car with a conventional automatic transmission, but there you can stomp with your feet a little less vigorously.

So what can be found for half a million?

And finally – the lamp
Today we start with the most expensive car. This 2012 car costs 499 thousand rubles, and it traveled 130 thousand kilometers. Motor – 1.8 liters, box – variator.

The car looks good, but in the rear left wing there is a fairly large, albeit tinted chip. And if you look at the back of the left door, it becomes obvious that it was repainted: shagreen leather is completely different. Perhaps it makes sense to touch this area with a thickness gauge.

1,400 microns on the door – it’s putty. But the rest of the paint on the car is my own. This is not as bad as a broken “face”, but a poorly repaired and painted door slowly begins to rot.

The second defect is not even so much a body one as a plastic one. The bumper skirt does not like solid objects. But this is generally nonsense.
